Current research focuses on:
- Applications of Computers to Urban Analysis, Urban Modelling, and Urban Planning;
Computers have a great potential as a tool to aid the planning process. I am now trying to develop several computer-based support systems.
For example;
(1) Environmental Management Planning Support System using an expert system.
(2) Urban Development Planning Support System.
(3) Urban Growth Modelling by means of Cellular Automata.
(4) Population and Employees Distribution Forecasting Model by means of Cellular Automata.
(5) Agent-based Modelling for Estimating Pedestrian Behaviour in City Center.
(6) Other urban analysis and modelling using Artifitial Neural Network or Genetic Algorithm.
**All of these system developments are based on Geographic Information System(GIS)**
- Urban Landscape Analysis;
Urban landscape planning and design is indispensable to enhance amenity in linving environment. In our laboratory, we are working at new approach to development of useful tools for urban landscape planning and design.
For example;
(1) A Method of Evaluating Urban Landscape Composition using Genetic Algorithm, based on 19th century European landscape paintings as a criterion.
(2) Non-linear Mapping Approach for Spatial Image on Scenes Written in a Novel.
